Festive Friday #1

Starting this year, I've decided to start a new Friday segment, entitled ''Festive Friday'', for my Youtube channel, makescrappygoodness.  Each week I will try and make something with a bit of holiday spirit.  If you didn't know it, I am big on Christmas.  So this gives me a chance to celebrate the whole year long, while using my stuff and finishing my cards before the mad rush begins.

My first card was inspired my the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge 250, as well as The Color Throwdown's colour challenge this week.

It was fun to make a card with only white, black, and red.  I actually think these colours would rock for a New Year's card. Here's my card:

Products Used:  Cardstock, MFT Rounded Banner Trio Die-namics, PTI Make-It-Market Tinsel & Tags, Tsukineko Brilliance - Graphite Black, Sequin Trim, and Pearl Pen.

Xmas All Year - Happy Holidays

Yay, Christmas Cards again...bringing my total number so far this year to 9.  I think I'll have enough by the time the holidays roll around again.  :)

Both cards I made using Basic Grey Jovial paper and embellishments from the Nordic collection.  I used Simon cardstock for the base.

The first card is for Retro Sketches.

The joyful piece is a chipboard accent.  I love the blue and white with red.  The wood ornament was sent to me from a friend.  I just put some tape runner adhesive behind it so can be removed and used again on a present etc.  I added some gold AC glitter ribbon for a bit of sparkle.

The second card was made for a Freshly Made Sketches challenge.  The sketch is vertical, but I decided to turn it on it's side.  I still think it fits.
I used a rub-on with all the presents for the horizontal piece (BG Nordic), so I figured I needed to add a vertical tree to go with it.  I did some stamping and embossing with stamps from Prima North County for the trees (it's actually only one stamp dono three times) and the sentiment.  Lindy's Embossing Powder in Candy Cane Red Gold is perfect for holiday cards.  I also added some tinsel string in gold.  I just love the Christmas flower paper from the Jovial collection and very happy I didn't have to cover it up. :)

Thanks for the challenges!

Color Palette Challenge and Xmas All Year

Hope your week is off to a good start!  My mojo is still going and so is my Christmas spirit.  Yesterday I made 4 more cards for my collection and another one for MFT's Color Palette Challenge (skip to bottom of post).

I made this one for the My Favorite Things Wednesday Stamp Club - Sketch #165

I love the dark red paper and kraft.  I chose this pattern paper because of the subtle stars (MME Lost & Found Christmas).  The Kodomo No Kao Super Gold embossing goes well with this, as does the chevron glitter tape (gift from my friend, Cheri).  A few odd bits and it's simple but sparkly.

Simon Wednesday Challenge called for pearls.  How easy was that?  I created two cards for this challenge.  I have wanted to use this awesome Christmas tree sentiment for the longest time.  Although I originally wanted to make one with rhinestones, I really like the pearls.  (I'll probably make another version next time.)  Since I popped up the circle with Sticky Stuff, I popped up this star gem with mini dots.  A big chocolate bow to finish it off.

The other pearl one became a mishmash of bling and buttons.  After stamping one of the trees from the PTI's Tree Trimming Trio, I placed the pieces on top and filled the spaces.  Afterwards, I added microbeads with glossy accent.  (Word to the wise, pour slowly to avoid bouncing microbeads everywhere...quite the disaster really.)   Later, after it dried, I sprayed it with hairspray to try and get the beads to stay better and I think that worked.  I used the coordinating sentiment and embossed with Kodomo no Kao Super Gold embossing powder.

The last Christmas card just happened when I found this embossed deer in my Authentique paper pad.  He's definitely been embossed with Super Gold, but the sad thing is he's probably been in my pad for over two years when I made my 12 Tags of Christmas.  So I thought it was time to put him to use.  Using my Spellbinders, I diecut the striped paper using the Circles Small.  Then I diecut the red paper with the regular circle and a medium scalloped circle die to get this lovely border.  I was inspired by my friend, Nicole, aka scrapology.  This deer comes from the Prima North stamp set, along with the other stamps used on this project.

2014 Xmas Cards To Date = 7

My Favorite Things does a Monthly Color Palette Challenge now and I was able to participate in the latest one.  The colours were Kraft, Sweettooth, Lemon Drop, and Blu Raspberry.

You could do anything you wanted with this combo.  I came across the You Move Me stamp set as I was looking for something and, as usual, I was drawn to it.  I love all the sentiments in this set.  They are so fun and playful and can be used for a lot of different occasions - cuz they're old-fashioned mushy.  :)  So I took it out and today when I got home I was able to play with it.  I decided instead of doing a lot of layering, I would go for simple.  One coordinating diecut label and some felt clouds with a rocket - and the rest was stamping.  For some reason, I had slippery fingers tonight.  I managed to mess up in a few different places and could only cover up two of them.  Alas, it was just one of those days.  But I am still happy with this card.  I love that this Doodletwine matches perfectly.  Thanks for the colour combo!

Looking forward to the new challenges from My Favorite Things and Simon Says.  I'm on a roll...so maybe I should have went with the ''Just Roll With It'' sentiment from the latter set??  lol...there's always next time.  Another day, another card.

Goodnight, ladies and gents!

Xmas All Year - Happy Gingerbread

Another Xmas card! This one feature the lovely gingerbread stamp from the Penny Black stamp set. It is a singular ginger friend, but I used a post-it to mask off the image and stamp two more on opposite sides. A few fun pearl blings later and I am still in love with Xmas just as ever! Got to make a couple more if I want to get five done this month...

How my gingerbread boy became a triplet:

After stamping your first image, stamp it again on a post-it.  Cut it out and stick it on top.  Now you can stamp on both sides to create a group and have the center image in front.

Keep your post-it with the stamp to reuse again later!

To create an inked shape while preserving the outer edge, tape your die with some masking tape before removing it.  The part that isn't showing will remain the original colour while the rest gets inked.  The look is very nice and it saves you from matting!

I just love gingerbread (my fav part of xmas, other than the tree)… Happy Smiles!

Xmas All Year - Owl I Want for Christmas

I've decided to make all my Christmas cards throughout the year.  By making time to do them gradually and earlier on, I'll have a good selection come the season.  This Christmas card is inspired by the Mojo Monday Sketch #333.  I like how the circles are overlapping and there is the large space behind.  There are a lot of different ways you could use this.

I thought Lawn Fawn's Winter  Owl would be so cute on the circle - opting for scalloped circles instead (Stampin' Up 1 3/4'' and 2 3/8'').  Finally got a chance to add some goggly eyes to a project!  These fun papers come from the MME 12 Days of Christmas Collection.

I added some AC Glitter Ribbon and popped the owl scalloped circle up with foam pieces from The Sticky Stuff Store.  This gives the card a bit of dimension, as well as the goggly eyes.

I love to paper piece the owl and took some step-by-step pics of the process.

Don't be surprised if this isn't the only post today…I'm in the scrappy mood, so I'll just roll with it.  :)

Cheers, Sherri

Xmas All Year - Cozy Quilt

I just saw the post for the new Curtain Call Inpiration Challenge and was totally inspired by the quilt theme.  The challenge is open until Feb. 25th.  Please click on the link here for details.

When I scrap, I like to have a candle going in my room and, as my last candle was all gone, I went to get a new one and found a cute jelly Xmas candle (pictured below).  That is entirely how I came up with the idea to do a Christmas card!!  It's so fun to make holiday cards any time of the year (except last minute).

I cut 5/8'' strips of paper from the Authentique 6x6 Wonder Collection and weaved them alternating patterns.  I don't think I've done this since grade school, so it was a lot of fun!  It probably would be a lot easier with wider strips, but I like the intricacy of the narrower ones.  If you were really keen, you could stitch it on your sewing machine too.  I used a scrap piece of paper cut down to 5x5 as a base for the quilt.  Afterwards, I mounted on red cardstock and pasted it to a green 5 1/2'' square card (I thought a square card would be more quilty!)  I love MFT's cardstock (I used Red Hot and Gumdrop Green).

My label frame comes from PaperTrey Ink - Simply Jane die collection.  The sentiment can be found on My Favorite Things - Clearly Sentimental about Christmas stamp set.  I added the Vintage Flourish die, which is also from MFT.  A few pearls and rhinestones (Hero Arts Pearls & Gems - Mixed Earth Accents) and a sparkly cardinal (Recollections) and I called it complete.

Thanks for the chance to win and a good excuse to make a Christmas card!
