Hello Butterflies

Simon Monday Challenge is Winged Things.  And butterfly cards are always nice to see!  I have been seeing so many lately and especially in this style, so I thought I would try it out.  I chose to use the colours in the Color Throwdown Challenge this week:  gray, green, and pink.

I picked the colours Staz On Cloudy Sky, Stampin Up Pear Pizzazz, and Hero Arts Neon Pink.  It was a nice combination.  This stamp comes from the Inkadinkado Patterned Bugs set and is just a single stamp.  I cut it up to be able to stamp in different colours more easily.  The sentiment comes from the Pink Paislee Hello Sunshine Stamp Set.  Thanks for the inspiration!

Some Bunny Loves You

I have two cards a few different challenges to share today.  The first one is for Papertrey Ink's Make it Monday challenge.  This week's challenge was to make a no-sewed quilt.  Doodlebug's Hello Spring 6x6 pad is perfect for this time of year.  The colours are so cute and the patterns are the best.  I cut 2x2 squares in three different patterns and laid them down in a quilt-like pattern.  Then I used the PTI Quatrefoil plate with their embossing pad for the embossed background.  The Chocolate Bunny die is from Poppy Stamps (I got it from Simon Says) and I used the PTI Scrambled Eggs sentiment to stamp all over him.  This is a good way to add a sentiment if you don't want to take away from the background.  I used Memento Lulu Lavendar and Grape Jelly and backed on a purple card because purple is my fav colour.

The next card is for MFT Wednesday Stamp Club and the Simon Wednesday Challenge.   Here is the sketch:

I love this fun Pure Innocence Bunny Ears stamp.  Not only is she holding an egg, she's got the cutest bunny suit on.  I made her purple and paper pieced the egg using paper from the Doodlebug pad again.  I know this is an MFT sketch, but I couldn't resist trying out my new Lawn Fawn Awesome dies and stamp set.  Love this instagram love and it's so cool to use only part of the image.  I always use the entire image and this time I had to cut off her ears and bottom half.  But it turned out well.  I coloured my instagram image with pastel colours, paper pieced and popped the lens. I stamped my sentiment in Grape Jelly in the bottom corner (from the same PI set) and added some bling.  I love this card.  
  

Easter is my second favorite season after Christmas.  I love the fun activities and cute things associated with spring.  I especially love decorating eggs.  I think it's a good thing we can't buy chocolate bunnies in Japan because I would probably eat too much.  :)

Sweet Sunday Sketch #214

I love this colour combo from the CTD again!  I chose to use my MFT Botanical Beauty Die-namics with all the colours and added a rhinestone from Wild Orchids in the center.  All the pattern paper comes from the Vintage Bliss pad by Simple Stories, except the smaller polkadot flower which comes from the Basic Grey Hopscotch pad.  I added the flower to the smaller circle of the MFT Open Scallop Doily Duo and a flocked ribbon in a brighter yellow running down behind it.  I made my card base from Blue Raspberry cardstock and added a blue patterned paper matted on a beige patterned paper.  I love the subtle butterflies.  My sentiment comes the MFT Birthday Sentiments.

I ''Reely'' Love You

Simon Wednesday Challenge was for Mother's Day or Special Girl.  Since I already made a card/tag for my mom's birthday this month, I thought of something fun instead.  My mom came to visit me in Japan over Christmas.  We had a great time hanging out, scrapping, shopping, and just spending time together.  It was so nice!  One of the things I rarely get to do with my mom is go and see a movie.  No matter what, she usually says yes if I ask her to go with me and we always get popcorn.  If we lived closer, I'm sure that we would have theatre nights, just as must as we had movie nights at home growing up.  :)  I made this card to send to her.  Since she lives so far away, I don't think I can include movie tickets.  But I can include the most recent photo taken of us together at the movies.   It's not the best photo, but my mom said it was a cute picture.  I'm sure that is enough to make her tear up a little.  It will be a nice memory.

Here's the sketch I used for MFT Wednesday Stamp Club #167:

I used the My Favorite Things At the Movies stamp set for most of this card.  Only the little heart comes from the Homespun Birdhouse set.  I thought it would be cool to stamp the base using the popcorn boxes and label stamps, which were stamped with Memento Lady Bug.  Then I stamp the sentiment using Brilliance Graphite Black.  I actually double stamped to make sure I got it a crisp image so it wouldn't get lost in all the popcorn box background.  I layered my now stamped white paper on red to frame it all.  Then I used my MFT Mini Ticket Strip die to make two strips and stamped each one with the word ''Ticket'' in Memento Tuxedo Black.  I thought it would be cute to add the heart where it crossed.  I glued the strips down and trimmed off in line with the red base.  I added it to the yellow card to give it a fun look and tie in with the popcorn idea.  :)

Thanks So Much

Simon Monday Challenge is ''D is for Distress'' - so I chose to use my distress inks and play a bit.  A friend sent me this peacock stamp a while back from Inkadinkado (I'm pretty sure it's discontinued since I couldn't find it online).  Using Tim Holtz inks in Shabby Shutters, Tumbled Glass, Broken China, and, of course, Peacock Feathers, I rubbed them in kind of an arch using a sponge.  I went back over spots to add more colour.  I was surprised at how vibrant the Peacock Feathers goes on, but I liked it.  Afterwards, I sprayed the entire piece using a Mini Mister and dried it using my heat tool.  I tool a TH distressing tool to rough up the edges and then inked it with Shabby Shutters.  In one corner I added a flair that had begun to rust.  I added a couple MME enamel dots in the top right corner of the image.  And below I added the simple ''thanks so much'' sentiment using VersaFine in Majestic Blue.  It feels good to get your hands dirty once in a while.  :)  Thanks for the challenge!

You're a Peach

The current Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge is Perfectly Peach.  I didn't know what I was going to do.  I decided I would find ''peachy'' paper first.  But then I remembered that I had this stamp from My Favorite Things, Who's That Girl Harvest, which includes a basket with interchangeable fruit.  And when I checked, I was happy to see it did have peaches on it.  Not that I needed to used peaches…but I liked the idea of being able to.  :)  Then what when from being a card turned into being a pocket envelope and tag.  It will be really cute paired with a nice gift for a friend.  I liked using the Fillable Frames #7 die to create a peephole for my image.  You could even add a transparency there, if you wanted.  I added some velcro on the pocket flap so it would be practical.

Simon Says Wednesday Challenge was to make a tag, so this works for that too!

Color Palette Challenge and Xmas All Year

Hope your week is off to a good start!  My mojo is still going and so is my Christmas spirit.  Yesterday I made 4 more cards for my collection and another one for MFT's Color Palette Challenge (skip to bottom of post).

I made this one for the My Favorite Things Wednesday Stamp Club - Sketch #165. 

I love the dark red paper and kraft.  I chose this pattern paper because of the subtle stars (MME Lost & Found Christmas).  The Kodomo No Kao Super Gold embossing goes well with this, as does the chevron glitter tape (gift from my friend, Cheri).  A few odd bits and it's simple but sparkly.

Simon Wednesday Challenge called for pearls.  How easy was that?  I created two cards for this challenge.  I have wanted to use this awesome Christmas tree sentiment for the longest time.  Although I originally wanted to make one with rhinestones, I really like the pearls.  (I'll probably make another version next time.)  Since I popped up the circle with Sticky Stuff, I popped up this star gem with mini dots.  A big chocolate bow to finish it off.

The other pearl one became a mishmash of bling and buttons.  After stamping one of the trees from the PTI's Tree Trimming Trio, I placed the pieces on top and filled the spaces.  Afterwards, I added microbeads with glossy accent.  (Word to the wise, pour slowly to avoid bouncing microbeads everywhere...quite the disaster really.)   Later, after it dried, I sprayed it with hairspray to try and get the beads to stay better and I think that worked.  I used the coordinating sentiment and embossed with Kodomo no Kao Super Gold embossing powder.

The last Christmas card just happened when I found this embossed deer in my Authentique paper pad.  He's definitely been embossed with Super Gold, but the sad thing is he's probably been in my pad for over two years when I made my 12 Tags of Christmas.  So I thought it was time to put him to use.  Using my Spellbinders, I diecut the striped paper using the Circles Small.  Then I diecut the red paper with the regular circle and a medium scalloped circle die to get this lovely border.  I was inspired by my friend, Nicole, aka scrapology.  This deer comes from the Prima North stamp set, along with the other stamps used on this project. 

2014 Xmas Cards To Date = 7

My Favorite Things does a Monthly Color Palette Challenge now and I was able to participate in the latest one.  The colours were Kraft, Sweettooth, Lemon Drop, and Blu Raspberry. 

You could do anything you wanted with this combo.  I came across the You Move Me stamp set as I was looking for something and, as usual, I was drawn to it.  I love all the sentiments in this set.  They are so fun and playful and can be used for a lot of different occasions - cuz they're old-fashioned mushy.  :)  So I took it out and today when I got home I was able to play with it.  I decided instead of doing a lot of layering, I would go for simple.  One coordinating diecut label and some felt clouds with a rocket - and the rest was stamping.  For some reason, I had slippery fingers tonight.  I managed to mess up in a few different places and could only cover up two of them.  Alas, it was just one of those days.  But I am still happy with this card.  I love that this Doodletwine matches perfectly.  Thanks for the colour combo! 

Looking forward to the new challenges from My Favorite Things and Simon Says.  I'm on a roll...so maybe I should have went with the ''Just Roll With It'' sentiment from the latter set??  lol...there's always next time.  Another day, another card.

Together is the Nicest Place to Bee

Today I am showing a card I made for two challenges - Simon Says Wednesday Challenge and the Sweet Sunday Sketch challenge.  Simon's theme was weddings and anniversaries.  The sketch for the Sweet Sunday Sketch incorporates wonky angles.  :)

I went with the theme of yellow for my card.  This lovely card base can be found at MFT - it's Banana Split!  (Love that name!)  I broke on an oldie but goodie from the Unity July 2011 KOTM.  I paper-pieced the two bees from some scrap yellow paper.  The wings and hearts I colored with my copics.  I also added some Ice Stickles to the hearts.  

The sentiment comes from MFT My Favorite Sentiments.  I just used a strip of kraft paper and used my corner punch on it.  Using my multiliner pen I added an 'e' to make it ''Together is the nicest place to bee''.  On the lower half of the card, I used my PTI Happy Hexagons Stamp Set to create the honeycomb look.  

 

I added a bright yellow gingham bow to the side of the image with another gingham scrap piece of paper layered underneath to which I added dashes on the edges with my pen.  Isn't it ''bee-u-tiful''?

 On the inside, I stamped this sentiment for an anniversary.

A Cameo Appearance

Just for your information…my desk is a scrap-disaster!  (But I will promptly clean it up as soon as I finish this post.)  All is not in vain, I have produced something elegant and pretty.  I even put flowers on my card.  (I rarely use flowers anymore, but I do love them.)  Today's card inspiration came while I was looking at my friend's blog (YT:  scrapology) and came across a Simon Says Wednesday challenge.  I didn't even know they had challenges at Simon Says!  And big ones - you can win a $50 gift certificate!  How cool is that?  Anyways, I discovered they also had Monday challenges, in addition  to the Wednesday one, so that is what this one is for.

The theme this week was A Cameo Appearance and was totally open for interpretation.  So I am not thinking outside of the box, but I am using my scrap supplies…because what better excuse to use my PTI Simply Jane die collection and stamp set?  I *simply* love this and it has a lot of different ways you can use it.  The frame die is a beautiful shape and I love adding pearls to the the lady. 

My flowers are from Wild Orchid for a bit of complimentary colour.  

On the outside, I choose not to stamp a message (putting it on the inside instead).  I stamped a simple flower on a Tiny Tag and tied it with some Pink Paislee twine (not my fav because of the thinness, but the colour works).  

 I really liked this sentiment, which I have chosen to include inside my card.

I also made this card with the Color Throwdown #280 in mind.  The colour's this week were light blue, vanilla, olive, and navy.  :)
