Festive Friday #3 - Holiday Greetings

I made a first card for the Color Throwdown last week and was filming the process - when the camera decided to die on me.  So I made another process using a different colour palette.  I stuck with the same Vintage Bliss paper pad by Simple Stories and switch the sequin bow.

I definitely think festive cards in twos is better!  :)

Loved the colours for the Color Throwdown's Challenge this week!

I actually decided to stick with the colours in horizontal stripes and use them in a fun Christmas card.  Simple Stories Vintage Bliss was a great match for this colour combo.  It's fun to use flowery paper for a holiday card.  I thought it need just a little bit of jazz, so I added the sequin bow.  A strip of glitter cardstock layer up top would also be a nice touch.

Sugar and Spice Challenge #8 - Christmas in July

So…guess what??  This time around Sugar and Spice is doing an almost month-long challenge with a big Christmas giveaway on July 25th.  (Because it's a Christmas in July theme, of course!)  

Here is the project I came created for the challenge.  I am going to try and do as many projects as I can, so consider this Day One (not sure if I can do 25, but I'll try…)  

I altered a notepad in non-traditional colours and it looks super cute.  :)

Sugar & Spice Crafty Challenge #6

The theme is Sweet Treats!!  And how sweet it was making these two tags for the Sugar and Spice Crafty Challenge.  Click here to be taken to the challenge entry.

Using the Lawn Fawn Sweet Christmas stamp set, I made a super cute Holiday tag.

I decided to colour all of my gingerbread characters different shades of brown using E31, E33, and E37.  I added mini pearl accents from Recollections and Doodlebug.

I used the same markers to colour my gingerbread house.  I tried making a woodgrain look on my door and added a goosebump to the doorknob.  I traced the loops until the windowsill with my GellyRoll pen for the icing look.

Since I love adding gumdrops to the rooves of my houses, there was no choice but to add them to my tag.  A little bit of Distress Stickles gave them just the right amount of sugaring!

I lieu of a snowbank, the doily adds a nice handmade touch.  I had the lollipops coming down the hill with a  couple of candy canes criss-crossed.  I used some gold tinsel twine on the hole for a little bit of sparkle.

The second tag uses a Tiddly Inks stamp (not sure of the name).  I used my Faber-Castell watercolour pencils and a brush pen for the colouring.

I finished it off using diecut pieces from my diecut tin and a stamp from an MFT set (the 'have a sweet' is the same one  used on my first tag).  I added a single Seria accent for some sparkle.

Xmas All Year - Cozy Quilt

I just saw the post for the new Curtain Call Inpiration Challenge and was totally inspired by the quilt theme.  The challenge is open until Feb. 25th.  Please click on the link here for details.

When I scrap, I like to have a candle going in my room and, as my last candle was all gone, I went to get a new one and found a cute jelly Xmas candle (pictured below).  That is entirely how I came up with the idea to do a Christmas card!!  It's so fun to make holiday cards any time of the year (except last minute).

I cut 5/8'' strips of paper from the Authentique 6x6 Wonder Collection and weaved them alternating patterns.  I don't think I've done this since grade school, so it was a lot of fun!  It probably would be a lot easier with wider strips, but I like the intricacy of the narrower ones.  If you were really keen, you could stitch it on your sewing machine too.  I used a scrap piece of paper cut down to 5x5 as a base for the quilt.  Afterwards, I mounted on red cardstock and pasted it to a green 5 1/2'' square card (I thought a square card would be more quilty!)  I love MFT's cardstock (I used Red Hot and Gumdrop Green).

My label frame comes from PaperTrey Ink - Simply Jane die collection.  The sentiment can be found on My Favorite Things - Clearly Sentimental about Christmas stamp set.  I added the Vintage Flourish die, which is also from MFT.  A few pearls and rhinestones (Hero Arts Pearls & Gems - Mixed Earth Accents) and a sparkly cardinal (Recollections) and I called it complete.

Santa's Helpers 12x12 LO

As I cleaning up my scrapspace, I came across this lovely pic of my two coworkers and myself.  I just love how matchy-matchy we are with our cute little aprons.  The title popped into my head right away.  Our job at the school Xmas parties was, in fact, to help Santa.  (Yes, he did make an appearance!)  Although I started off my searching my 12x12 LOs pinboard on Pinterest, I just decided to do something different.  Only the corner parts were something I had seen the day before on a layout pin. 

My theme of course was red and a bit of green.  I found these Basic Grey clear pieces and was totally inspired.  It was a softer green, a little minty, and I loved it.   

The days of the week stamp came from a Studio Calico Project Life kit, as well as the December alphas (Basic Grey).  The number stamp can be found an exclusive Studio Calico stamp set.  I added some stars and dots using my Memento Dual Marker.  This striped masking tape is from DAISO Japan (can't beat 100yen).   I had a hard time picking ink for this tape though and ended up using Staz On in Cloudy Sky.

I was tempted to do some stitching, but found myself too lazy to take out my machine as usual.  Instead, I used the roller piercing tool (what is that thingy called?) under the title and in both corners.  I used American Crafts Hardcover and Marquise Thickers.  Using a scrap piece of vellum, I was able to line up my title before placing them permantly.  I didn't want to lose any, so I also added a bit of Tombo Glue on the backs of each one. The snowflakes all come from Lawn Fawn.

This would veneer tab also came from a Studio Calico Project Life kit.  I added a small pearl and another snowflake.

Masking the taped section, I stamped half of this today medallion seal just for a little something.  I handwrote the year.

I used my piercing tool to add these tiny silver brads to the label piece.  I wanted to show off the ''Gotta Love It'' flag and I like the look.  Before placing this canvas camera sticker, I dabbed it with Creme Brulee Starburst Stain from Lindy's Stamp Gang (can't really see in the pic).  And I offset it for an accent piece.

This will be a memorable pic for years to come - I love my girls!

Matchbox Advent Calendar!

December begins...  yippee! 

I have been seeing tons of advent calendars on pinterest and I decided to make my own matchbox calendar.  Originally I wanted to have them on some kind of board or large cookie tray...but I realized I couldn't find something to work and so I was just going to have to adjust it to suit my home.  Instead, I decided to make a double-garland type calendar punching holes in one side of the box that pulls out.  At first, I was worried the boxes would just fall out because off the weight of the candy.  But they seem to be holding alright.  Check out more pics at the end of this post!

Step one:  Cover the boxes.  I laid my matchbox down and measured all sides on a piece of paper and left a little extra to tuck unde
r on the back.  It turned out I could use 6x6 squares easily.  If the papers are doubled-sided, that means you can use on of each side from only one sheet!  I'm a big fan of saving paper.  I used the MME 12 Days of Christmas paper pad.  It comes with 12 double-sided sheets.  Meaning 24 different matchboxes!  :)  Use any adhesive you like.

Step two:  Punch holes on one side of the pull-out box.  I used the smaller punch hole from my cropadile.   Use all your leftover scraps of ribbon and trim to make loops that you will use to hang the boxes.  This is a great way to be thrifty and get rid of some pesky pieces you do no want to part with!  If the piece is too short to tie, you can staple it or adhere it with tape, etc.

Step three:  Decorate!  This is the fun part.  I mixed up my numbers with thickers and stickers.  The only thing is some alphas do not come with numbers.  :(  But I had a big collection to choose from.   Point to note:  Line up your boxes in the order you would like so you don't have the matching colours next to one another when you go to string them up.  I put a ton of snowflakes from the leftover paper pieces using my Martha Stewart snowflake punch.  And I found bit and pieces that would look nice on my boxes.  I was going for simple and cute. 

Step four:  Cut two pieces of string, twine, etc.  the same length.  Tie loop knots on each end and pin up.  I wanted my boxes to be moveable and not have the loop stuck on the base line.  So I used tiny clothespins (I knew there was a good use for these!)  and mixed up the colours.  If you are worried about the ribbons being too matchy, just switch out inner boxes. 

Step five:  Add the candy.  My boxes were filled with chocolate santas, snowmen, milky caramels, chocolate-filled marshmallows, and ramune.  If you have children, you can add little toys (like the kinds you buy for parties) or other things like hair ties, etc.

Layout Share: Girlfriends Rock and Scrappinnwrappin 2000 Subscriber Giveaway Challenge

Yay for besties.  They are there for you whenever you need them and they support in ways no one else can.  Whether it's finding something special or lending an open ear, they can never ever be replaced.

This past Christmas, my YouTube bestie sent me a super sweet box full of special goodies.  The box itself was decorated with fun snowflake washi tape and cute die-cute snowflakes.  When it came time for cleanup, I couldn't just throw everything out, so I kept the pieces I loved and used them in a layout that would remind me how special it was.  Here's that layout:

A close-up of the snowflake.  You can see the UPS mark in the background.  I just kept the tape from the box and added it to the kraft paper to recreate the look.

I used a stitched fabric brad from Basic Grey's Out of Print collection.  I also used some leftover tissue paper to layer under the photo.

The next layout was the one that I made for Cheri's 2000 giveaway challenge  (YouTube scrappinnwrappin).  Check on the video link below to see the giveaway guidelines.  

This picture was actually from my boyfriend's birthday.  But the colours in the photo work well with valentine colours.  Looking back in time, I found out this picture was taken in 2006.  My roller date stamps don't even have a 2006 year on them.  So I just stamped his birthday and left off the year.

Using my copic multiliner, I drew lines around the entire layout and added an ''xoxo 2006'' to the corner.  The paint splatter was created using a water pen and a watercolour palette. 

I really wanted to use my PTI heart border for this layout and I wanted it to stand it.  Then the idea came to me to  used a gradation of valentine colours.

Two types of thickers were combined for the title.  I wanted to added a bit of sparkle along with the shiny alphas to make it pop.  My boyfriend never buys me cake for my birthday, lol.  I also wrote my journalling right under the title using my multi-liner again.

Merry Christmas, 2012!! This year has flown by and now it's that time of year.  The past two I've went back to Canada for the holidays, but this year I vouched to spend my time here in Japan with my boyfriend at our place instead.  It was a lot quieter.  But nice.
